The atmosphere suggests a place where efficiency meets genuine care—staff who are attentive without feeling rushed, and a rhythm that balances quick service with a respect for flavor and detail.
Though Japan XO leans toward takeaway, its offerings carry a quiet vibrancy that speaks through each bite—whether the buttery softness of shrimp paired with fried rice or the delicate balance found in their inventive rolls. There’s a simplicity here that allows ingredients to shine, from the fresh ginger’s subtle kick to the creamy texture of freshly fried wontons. The aromas of grilled hibachi and fresh wasabi mingle with the comforting familiarity of thoughtfully packed meals, making each order feel like a small celebration of everyday flavors.

The sushi was excellent and really good value. However, it seems to be more of a take-away restaurant. It is possible to eat there but only in the take away boxes. However, this has no influence on the very good taste.

Great spot for Hibachi fans. The carrots were so sweet and soft. The only downside is I don't want to go back to my usual favorite place for hibachi. Delicious food, and the cashier is super sweet.

The food and service are always really good! I usually order the salmon but today they ran out. I won’t hold it against them since they close in an hour but I was really looking forward to it. I’m not a huge fan of shrimp in general, but I’m trying it today.

I came back twice just to make sure this place IS really that good. Omg!!! The rolls are YUMMY & the presentation is picturesque & so vibrant. I had the cream cheese wonton , they were fresh out of the grease, creamy but light & tasty. I also had hibachi, the ginger was fresh…spicy wasabi & fresh delicious rolls. Customer service was good, staff were polite & service was not super fast , all the better because it’s hand made fresh! Hidden gem…

We wanted hibachi and they definitely met the mark. We tried Salmon Hibachi, Chicken& Shrimp Hibachi & The yummy roll, which was buy 1 get one! Everything was awesome. Salmon was seasoned which is important for me. Everything was clean and organized AND the people were very friendly and made sure our Togo was packed to perfection. From the yum yum sauce to chopsticks. Very quick service. Food was hot and fresh. Will definitely come back! Ask for extra rice if you like rice like we do.

One of the best sushi spots in Raleigh! Today was my first experience and as you can see I devoured it! The staff was super nice, menu is easy to ready, and of course the sushi is delicious! I had the Yummy and Dynamite roll and I think they’re my favorites so far. Grateful to have them located extremely close to me! 120% recommend!

The restaurant is a low-key hidden gem with a small dining area but a big team working the kitchen, sushi station, and register. The staff are quiet but provide kind and fast service, which is fine because the food speaks for itself. It’s easily better than other places around and cost ~30% less, with a simple menu that offers enough variety without causing option overload. The sushi and steak hibachi my girlfriend and I ordered tasted fresh and was so good she finished it quickly despite having no appetite. I normally only bother to leave negative reviews if ever, but it’s nice to see a small business still holding higher standards and food service than more “established” restaurants who charge more. If you’re looking for a little spot to dine or to just have as your go-to take out spot, this is the place. It might not look like much, but order something and find out what a steal each plate is.
